posted this in our GP forum (Time with TS Chua) in SAJC Moodle.
SAJC, like many other institutions, has Moral Education as one of its curriculum programmes. but frm wat i see, this ME programme is only there to fulfil practical purposes. for example, recently, rather just today, our ME teacher asked all of us to come up w/ an individual time-table during our ME lesson to help us better prepare for our Promos.
i think this is a pretty viable thing to do cos some of us (including me) do not have the self discipline to produce a time-table n follow it so it was a timely exercise.
however, i began to be cynical n question the purpose of tt. i realise tt it's actually to make us study properly for our Promos so tt we won't get retained n waste our school's resources for the past 7 mths. this may not be a bad thing in itself cos applying wat Mrs Lee has taught us,
the college is acting on self-interest. on one hand, they want us to do well for our own good, for our future. on the other, they oso want us to do our college proud by doing well.
okay, here comes the crux of this entire entry. wat i actually want to point out is, SAJC doesn't encourage its students to "think of the source of water when drinking it".
i hope this sounds familiar to many.6 days frm now is the eve of Teachers' Day. according to tradition, or rather the culture of many S'porean students, students make a 'pilgrimage' back to their alma mater to visit their former teachers n see how they are doing every Teachers' Day eve (besides Chinese New Year eve). do u realise tt these are the only 2 occasions when we can all go back n visit our mother school
together w/ former classmates frm other tertiary institutions?
but guess wat, the Econs dept of SAJC announced tt there will be a test at 10am aft the teachers' day celebrations. quoting Justin,
wat the crap! pls la, it's gonna be Teachers' Day, shdn't u teachers take a break? i instantly recalled abt my senior who cudn't return to visit us on Teachers' Day eve last yr. in fact i rarely got to see him when he was in SAJC as a JC1 student. he told me he had a test to sit for.
imagine sitting for a test n forfeiting one of the few chances of visiting ur former teachers. ppl say the test shd be our main priority cos we can always visit them next yr. but u see, some of our teachers may not always teach at Cat High n thus we may not get to see them there if we go back next yr. furthermore, who noes if we're gonna have another test on Chinese New Year eve n Teachers' Day eve. see where i'm coming frm?
so wat if we have Moral Ed in sch? the college itself doesn't practise or rather encourage the moral value of gratitude!
pls do not get me wrong. i'm just expressing my dissatisfaction w/ one of the college's poor practices. i'm not anti-SAJC. in fact, i love my college. it's been my dream college ever since my Cat High days n i'm thkful to God for fulfilling my dream. tt's why i want it so much to be the best tt it can be.
